Seeing Africa for the first time from Spain’s southern most city, Tarifa, was one of the little treats I enjoyed today. I also mourned the loss of Anthony Bourdain, in my own way, and celebrated his life by continuing to explore parts unknown in much the same way I imagine he would.
I rode a bus from Madrid to Malaga, and then to Algeciras for about nine hours. Then, a shuttle bus took me from the ferry port in Algeciras to the port in Tarifa. After an hour long ferry ride I entered Tangiers, Morocco.
My hotel arranged a guide to pick me up immediately upon my arrival. The guide arranged a city tour for me. I saw much of the city over a three hour tour and ate a tremendously tasty and impressively presented meal of lamb cous cous.
