Sadly, England is grappling with the aftermath of this past week’s terrorist attack. It was no wonder security was so tight in and around the city.
I departed from Manama, Bahrain six hours prior to arriving at London Heathrow Airport.
With a six hour layover I decided to see the sights. After being grilled by the customs official, I was allowed to enter the country.
I exchanged money and got some information from the cashier about how to efficiently get into and return to the airport to make my flight. I left my bag at the storage area and rode the Heathrow Express into town.
At Paddington Station I hailed a taxi and we proceeded to ride around the city. It was an impromptu tour, but my taxi driver was up for the challenge. He was knowledgeable and helpful. At one point he stopped long enough for me to snap photos in front of Big Ben.
I was in London sightseeing within a two and half hour time frame, which included the time it took for me to leave and return to Heathrow airport. Upon returning to the airport, I went to the wrong terminal. Luckily, I had enough time to make up for any mistakes.
Now I can say that I have been to London.
