Spicy Black Noodles

The Chinese inspired restaurant on our university’s campus has introduced a new item to their menu. I have eaten this dish at other restaurants, but none were like this one. The difference? It is spicy. In general, Jja Jjang Myung, or Black Noodles as they are deservedly called, are served without hot peppers.  

Black bean sauce, baby octopus, shrimp, squid, shitake mushrooms, onions, green onions, green peppers, peas and noodles are the ingredients in this delicacy. The black bean sauce topping is served in a separate bowl. Condiments include pickled radish and onions. Although I enjoyed trying this dish, I doubt I will order it again. I feel guilty too. The waitress asked if it was tasty to which I replied ‘yes.’ I actually thought the opposite. The noodles were firmer than I would have preferred them to be. Also, the spicy aspect of this dish was the desired effect the chef focused on rather than taste. I’ll pass next time.
