I learned about the protest last minute, but I still made it a point to participate. Primarily because the Ethiopian Democratic Club of Los Angeles promoted the event, and since the protest route went down Fairfax where Little Ethiopian is located, I wanted to join. My participation in all things Ethiopian in Los Angeles spans from a desire to align my politics with Ethiopians just as Afro-Americans did during the Second Italo-Abyssinian War. There struggle is our struggle. During that war, Black Americans who were not receiving a fair deal in America, opted to support Ethiopia by fighting against an Imperial power — Italy.
